Little Io and the Gem Trail

About this tale

The tale was written for my daughter, Io, as I was awaiting her arrival. I thought of the values I would like to impart to her and the best way to go about it, apart from making a list of them and handing it in to her (ugh!). I decided to write a story and make her the heroine of it.

Luckily, Io loves reading books and gladly interacts with any that come her way, from baby board books to vintage botanical catalogues. I found out that with the right encouragement and turning the reading into a wonderful, cuddly time together, each baby or child can become a fan of books, tales, stories, and poems.

As this tale is dear to me, I wanted it to be available and enjoyable to other parents, too, for free. To make it special for everyone, it is customisable and the heroine of the story can easily become a hero or heroes. It will also work on your phone.

The tale comes with a set of tasks and colouring material busy parents can print off and occupy their children with, or participate in when they are not putting out yet another fire. They are fun and practise such skills as reading comprehension, vocabulary, abstract thinking, guessing, and even encourage a little philosophising so that you can get to know your little one(s) a bit better.

Happy reading!
