About this poem
Theatre is one of my passions, Yaël Farber's adaptation of Arthur Miller's "The Crucible" at the Old Vic being my favourite production. I love the magic that takes place before my eyes on stage and believe that the sooner children get introduced to the theatre, the better and the more appreciative of it they can become. After a visit to the theatre I was thinking about how children could be introduced to their first theatrical experience in a fun and accessible way and so this poem came to me.
It includes vocabulary that children need to speak about and get familiar with the theatre (foyer, antract, stalls, thespians, etc.) as well as gives them hints on how to behave in so magical a place. It can constitute a great point from which a conversation about the child’s (upcoming) visit to the theatre may spring and/or an introduction to the world of plays as Shakespeare is mentioned toward the end of the poem.
