About this poem
As I am very much focussed on educating my daughter at home, I made teaching and learning the Greek alphabet one of the items on the list of things with which I wished her to become familiar, alongside the English alphabet, names of the dinosaurs, and bones of the human skeleton, among others.
I do not know the Greek language, unfortunately, but I see the importance of knowing at least the foundations of it - the alphabet. As well as sowing the seed of curiosity about the language, the knowledge of the Greek letters is useful when studying Mathematics; this comes from a person who once had to calculate one hundred Deltas as a penalty homework, which, when submitted, immediately ended up in the classroom bin.
Ideally, I would like to accompany the poem by a beautifully-illustrated version of the Greek letters but, in the absence of that, I can recommend websites which I used when teaching - the letters are great for printing out and cutting them up and/or to be displayed in the room: https://www.greekboston.com/learn-speak/alphabet-letters-symbols/ or https://www.historyextra.com/period/ancient-greece/ancient-greek-alphabet-letters-symbols-how-pronounce-origin/.
I hope you can join me on this journey of making our children both curious and knowledgeable.
Happy teaching!
